Proud to be a #unionmember

#unionmember logoOver the Labor Day weekend, American Rights at Work teamed up with Actors’ Equity, AFTRA, the Screen Actors Guild, and the Major League Baseball Players Association in support of the Labor Day Tweet-a-thon.  The goal of the Tweet-a-thon was to celebrate unions, their members, and the benefits of being in a union for workers in showbiz, and in every industry.  People using the #unionmember hash-tag ranged from rank and file union members to celebrities—all proud to be tweeting their #unionmember pride on Labor Day.

Folks who lent their voice to the Labor Day campaign were baseball players Evan Longoria, Paul Malholm, Hunter Pence, and Adam Jones. Actors like CSI: New York’s Hill Harper, Candace Cameron of Full House and Make it or Break It, and Yvette Nicole Brown of NBC’s Community chimed in as well.  And of course there were musicians, from Nancy Sinatra to Chris Shiflett of The Foo Fighters.

A few notable tweet’s included that of Minnesota centerfielder Denard Span, tweeting that “Becoming a union member is like hitting a homerun,” and actor Emily Bergl, who tweeted, “If I wasn’t a #unionmember, I wouldn’t have health insurance, so I couldn’t afford to visit my hot dentist.”

Thanks again to all who participated and helped us reach over one million twitter users.  Check unionmember.org for more of our favorite #unionmember tweets.

Also, check back on Friday for our specical #FF (follow Friday) roundup of those who participated in the #unionmember Labor Day Tweet-a-thon.
